Ruatoria Volunteer Fire Brigade advise of the passing of SSO Royce Mathieson on 27 June 2023. Royce joined the Ruatoria Volunteer Fire Brigade in 1996 and served with the Brigade for many years.
Wainuiomata Volunteer Fire Brigade would like to advise the passing of ex brigade member Stephen Shephard on 16 June 2023. Stephen was a brigade member from 1975 until 1981 then re-joined in 1993 until 2002 giving 14 years’ service in total.
Wellington District would like to advise the passing of ex Green Watch Senior Firefighter Ross Harvey on 29 June 2023. Ross was a long serving and greatly respected member of Porirua Fire Brigade. A private cremation was held for Ross over the weekend.
In 2020, the Department of Conservation, Lake Rotoiti Volunteer Fire Brigade and the local community came together to establish the Rotoiti FireSmart Working Group and were given permission to form a ‘Green Firebreak’ alongside an important access road.
