Wellington International Pride Parade organisers have made the tough decision to cancel this year’s event. They will now focus their efforts on next year’s parade, scheduled for March 2022.

In a statement, the Wellington International Pride Parade Board say they made the decision as they felt it was more responsible to hold the event in 2022 to relieve potential pressure on already stressed community resources in Wellington.

“This has been a very difficult year for New Zealand and for many in our communities already dealing with mental health issues and other challenges. There is so much stress in our communities that the best thing we can do right now is play our role in the team of five-million and be patient for a year, just like everyone else has had to be,” WIPP Board Co-Chair Amanduh La explained.

Fire and Emergency’s Rainbow Network want to thank everyone who registered their interest in the event and those who continue to show their support for the rainbow community. We value the efforts and enthusiasm that you’ve all shown, and while we’re saddened by the decision, we’re positive about what we can achieve next year.

If you can, we encourage you to get involved in the Auckland Rainbow Parade on Saturday, 27 March. You can register interest and ask us any questions, by emailing: Pride@fireandemergency.nz
