Many people at Fire and Emergency will have noticed a change to their desktop background this week.

The new background reads “Whiria te Tāngata | Supporting the visibility and inclusion of Rainbow Communities”.

This new background has been made in support of our employee-led Whiria te Tāngata | Rainbow Network.

It is timed to both coincide with Wellington Pride Month, which started on 1 March, as well as the official launch of Whiria te Tāngata on 10 March in Wellington. Your background will revert to its original state at the start of April.

The network was setup by a group of like-minded people from across the organisation who aim to increase the visibility, inclusion and participation of people with diverse sexual orientation, gender identity and expression, and sex characteristics in Fire and Emergency.

The launch of the network has been a long time in the making, with the first meeting taking place in early 2020, but factors such as COVID-19 have meant an official launch has been delayed until now.
