We advise of the passing of Ray Warby at 0300 Queensland time today, 24 August 2023, in his eightieth year. 

Retired 20 Jan 2004 as Chief Fire Officer of the then Auckland City East Fire District, past Divisional Officer but renowned as SSO at Auckland City Station Brown Watch for many years, having commenced his career as a firefighter on 30 May 1962.

Ray received the Queen’s Commendation for Brave Conduct for his part in the 9 August 1990 Manukau Petrol Tanker incident.

Ray was an organiser of the 1st World Firefighter Games and also one of the three co-founders of GoldWatch.

At Ray’s request there will be no funeral, however retired SSO Howard Burnette (Smiley) advises there will be a wake at Kurrawa Surf Club, Broadbeach, Queensland.
