Just over two years since we received a funding boost from the Government of over $50 million for rebuilds and upgrades of 26 fire stations, there is only one station to go.

The additional funding was specifically allocated from the Government’s COVID Response Recovery Fund (CRRF), and the last project of the programme – Kaikōura – is expected to be completed early next year.

National Manager Property, Dominic Hare, says he is ‘delighted’ that we have now upgraded or rebuilt 25 stations.

‘These are Napier, Christchurch Central, Greymouth, Athol, Paeroa, Pōkeno, Kawakawa Bay, Titahi Bay, Seaview, Appleby, Featherston, Cavalli, Okaihau, Waipawa, Greytown, Balclutha, Peel Forest, Makarora, Taihape, Waihi, Huntly, Stokes Valley, Sumner, Darfield, and Rangitata Gorge.

‘Our property team has exceeded all expectations with this project of work which has been completed ahead of time and which came with the challenges of COVID-19 and escalating costs.’

Here are photos of the two most recently completed stations, Darfield and Sumner.
