John served with the South Taranaki District Council for over 40 and was involved with rural fire for many of those.

Hororata Volunteer Fire Brigade advises the passing of Roger Parsons, ex Chief Fire Officer of Hororata Station. Roger was a gold star member having served 40 years with the brigade and was known as the Honorary Mayor of Hororata.
