Welcome to the first Research Update for Fire and Emergency New Zealand. In this edition, there is information on the new projects being funded through the 2017/2018 Contestable Research Fund.
The Collective Agreement agreed between Fire and Emergency New Zealand and New Zealand Professional Firefighters Union (NZPFU) advises a review of market rates in May of each year the agreement remains in force. The 2017 market rates have been reviewed using the same approach that was agreed in 2013.
Think you spend too much time doing paper work? Well a project is due to start that aims to reduce the amount of time and effort volunteers spend doing administration work. Volunteers at numerous forums and workshops have told us that administration tasks are time-consuming, complex and inefficient.
The new Fire and Emergency New Zealand Act 2017 (Sections 31 – 35) enables the Board to prescribe physical and psychological health standards to ensure operational personnel are able to undertake duties that may be required of them without undue risk to their safety, health and wellbeing.

Fire and Emergency NZ Chief Executive Rhys Jones and Department of Conservation (DOC) Director-General Lou Sanson signed an Operational Service Agreement (OSA) today, outlining the two organisations’ joint-agreement to firefighting on public conservation land.

It has been brought to our attention that many personnel are concerned about the performance of the Fire Angel smoke alarms provided through On Line ordering (OLO). We take this issue very seriously and therefore provide the following advice.
