Working together to keep us all safe on the roads this Road Safety Awareness Week
We all deserve to live in a world where there are zero road deaths and injuries, and people can get around in ways that are safe, sustainable, healthy and enjoyable. Sadly, the reality is far from this. In New Zealand, approximately 300 people die every year on our roads and the number of people killed annually in road crashes across the globe is expected to rise to 1.8 million by 2030.
This Road Safety Week is a timely reminder for us all to be safe behind the wheel. Road Safety Week, run by the road safety charity, Brake(external link), gives us the opportunity to share and promote road safety, an important topic for our people who regularly attend car crashes and see first-hand the reality of what can happen when things go wrong on our roads.
We are calling on everyone to be a road safety hero, and show your support:
- Contact your local CRM to see what opportunities there might be to work with safe driving organisations in your District, like Brake.
- You can also put up a Road Safety Week poster in your station or use the Road Safety Week Zoom background:
- Download the poster [PDF, 1022 KB]
- Download Teams/Zoom background: Option 1 [JPG, 171 KB], Option 2 [JPG, 300 KB], Option 3 [JPG, 129 KB] (click on the option you prefer, right click on the image and select 'save image as' to save to your files).
