It’s Te Wiki Tūao ā-Motu – National Volunteer Week and we are thanking our volunteers across the motu (country) for their incredible contributions.

Fire and Emergency volunteers show up for their communities when times are tough. They are available 24/7, 365 days a year and frequently go above and beyond to keep their communities safe and supported.

We are fortunate to have more than 11,500 people who generously volunteer their time with us as firefighters, operational support, medical first responders and brigade support.

It’s not always easy – the mahi (work) can be tough and the commitment to volunteer is in addition to whānau, mahi and other responsibilities.

How we are showing our appreciation this National Volunteer Week

We’re running a nationwide ad campaign during National Volunteer Week to express our thanks:

We want to raise awareness of the incredible work our volunteers do and give the public an opportunity to thank them too.

We also want to say thank you to the whānau, employers and friends of our volunteers – their support makes it possible for our volunteers to serve their communities.

Keep an eye out for our digital ads and an ear out for our radio ads. We’ll also be posting on our social media so look out for these and feel free to share to show your support.

How you can show your support:

  • Reach out and say thank you to our volunteers – it’s so simple but can mean a lot
  • Show your appreciation on social media – share our posts or post your own “thank you” message to acknowledge the incredible contributions of our volunteers
