Anzac Day this year saw our people commemorating the New Zealanders and Australians who have lost their lives at war, and to honour our returned and serving servicemen and women.

We came together at war memorials at dawn, the time that ANZAC forces started landing on the Gallipoli peninsula on this day in 1915.

Below is a small sample of some of the ways our people commemorated the day.

The Richmond Volunteer Fire Brigade laid at wreath at their local service.

The Laingholm Volunteer Fire Brigade have organised their community's Anzac Day service for about 25 years. You can read more about why here(external link).

They were joined by the Waiatarua Volunteer Fire Brigade for their service this year.

The trucks at the Turangi Volunteer Fire Brigade showed the ANZAC spirit with a poppy on the front.

The Waitati Volunteer Fire Brigade pay their respects at their local war memorial.

We would like to thank our brigades that did attend public ceremonies for representing Fire and Emergency well.

Ka maumahara tonu tātou ki a rātou | We will remember them.
