Rātū hari! Happy Tuesday! For day two of Mental Health Awareness Week, we are going to give/tukua.

Today is all about kindness and generosity. Selflessly giving to others not only boosts our own happiness and wellbeing, it also creates a domino effect of positivity that extends beyond your immediate circles.

Here’s how Jude Patterson, former volunteer firefighter, Gives:

There is nothing to be lost by carrying out acts of kindness, whether that means giving your time, resources, or support, you’ll be brightening somebody’s day and nurturing your own wellbeing!

Here are some ideas about how you can tukua today:

  • Stop and kōrero with someone new today! Your neighbour, bus driver, or the checkout assistant at the supermarket. Asking ‘kei te pēhea koe/how are you?’ might be just the thing they need to hear today.
  • Write a letter to someone who could use some extra aroha. Tell them what you love and appreciate about them to brighten up their day.
  • Bake something delicious for your hoamahi (colleagues) to share at morning tea time.
  • Dedicate some of your time to someone who needs a helping hand. This coud be helping an elderly member of the whānau around the house, or taking your busy friend’s dog out for a walk.
