The Institution of Fire Engineers’ Information Series features monthly presentations on topics of interest in firefighting. This month’s presentation will be held on Thursday, 25 May from 7pm-8pm and will feature Dr Claire Benson talking about hydrogen safety.

Rescheduled IFE Information series #5

This event is rescheduled from the April date when technical issues prevented it from going ahead.

Dr Benson is a fire scientist and engineer working as a safety and compliance professional at Fabrum AFCryo. Prior to coming to New Zealand, as an academic Claire was actively involved in research and consultancy work for over 17 years, testing fuels and materials, and working to improve industrial, aviation and building fire hazards. She has a BSc (hons) degree in forensic science, and a PhD in chemical engineering specialising in high pressure oxygen system safety for aerospace.

She has conducted research for the London Fire Brigade, Sellafield Ltd and the UK Ministry of Defence, and collaborated with the British Standards Institution, the UK Health and Safety Executive, and numerous aerospace and industrial engineering companies.

Dr Benson is also a Member of the Institution of Fire Engineers New Zealand branch council. Most recently her work has focused on hydrogen safety in a variety of industrial contexts, and her research interests include building fire safety, and fire investigation methods.
