As part of the review process into our response to the Auckland Floods and Tropical Cyclone Gabrielle we have created a Lessons Capture Form and we’d like to hear from you.  We want to hear your feedback on what went well, what we need to improve, and what lessons were identified that we can share.

What’s the purpose of this Review?

The aim of the Auckland Floods and Cyclone Gabrielle Operational Review and the supporting After Action Reviews (AAR) and lessons approach is to assist us to identify key observations, learning opportunities and good practices. This information will contribute to learning and improvement within Fire and Emergency. The outcomes will provide evidence to inform a range of possible future activities and priorities for us, including continuous improvement actions, training, exercising, resourcing, and supporting our career and volunteer communities.

Why should I be involved?

The storms and cyclone impacted much of the North Island and Fire and Emergency mobilised people and resources from across the motu (country) to support those on the frontline of the response.

Some people will have taken part in the debrief/after action review sessions but, whether you did or not, this is your opportunity to let us know anything that you saw or experienced that can contribute to this learning process.

The Lessons Process

We follow Just Culture principles - Lessons Management focuses on the performance of systems and processes, not individuals.

It encourages us to learn from experience; when things go well, we celebrate them and when they don't, they are treated as opportunities to improve. It relies on people’s willingness to share and discuss their experiences, both positive and negative, with others.

Is my submission anonymous?

All observations will have your personal details removed (i.e. will refer to roles and not individuals) and assigned an ID number before being analysed, streamed into insights, and shared to the review.
