On Tuesday we sent a contingent of firefighters to Australia to help fight the wildfires burning across Queensland.

The Alpha contingent is now based in Warwick, a town in Southeast Queensland, located 130 kms from Brisbane. Alpha contingent is made up of four five-person crews and two strike team leaders; five of the firefighters are from the Department of Conservation. These crews join an Incident Management Team made up of six of our people who arrived in Queensland on Sunday, 5 November.

Queensland Fire and Emergency Services crews have responded to more than 1000 vegetation fires since late October and there are 37 active wildfires across the state.

Alpha will be replaced by Bravo on 17 November. The selection process is underway for Bravo and efforts are focused on pre-departure arrangements.
