Fire and Emergency Comcens use Selcall (selective tone calling) to mobilise or alert fire appliances and stations. This, alongside paging, is the primary alerting method. A significant portion of the “end to end” process that allows Selcall to operate is old technology and no longer meets our needs for a modern emergency service.
Note that Draeger have changed their mask washing solution.
Report all firework-related fires to ComCen and enter advice/education activity in SMS. Identify sales locations of fireworks to help keep firefighters safe and educate retailers.
Check all standpipes. If any are found to have welded barrels they are to be removed immediately from service and the Region Equipment Coordinator is to be contacted for a replacement.
Note that, while Fire and Emergency is working with St John, Wellington Free Ambulance, the New Zealand Professional Firefighters’ Union (NZPFU), and other representative associations on agreed arrangements for responding to non-purple medical emergencies, co-response brigades will only respond to purple medical emergencies.
Note that Fire and Emergency has published the Asbestos Management and Control Policy and an associated Organisation-wide Asbestos Management Plan.
Read and make sure you are familiar with the Comcen Operation Plan
Continue to make sure cleansing wipes are on all trucks for personal decontamination on the incident ground.
