Clarification around use of Stop/Go signs on appliances
There have been a number of incidents already this year where Fire & Emergency personnel in our Area have reported suffering from the effects of smoke inhalation where Breathing Apparatus (BA) was not being used.
If you come across hazardous substances at an incident and you need advice, we have an updated process that you need to follow to request advice.
Operational considerations at Chemical Suicides
Region One has attended several chemical poisoning suicides over the last five years. These are predominately hydrogen sulphide (H2S) or Helium (He) but may include Cyanide (HCN) poisoning, although the constituent chemicals for HCN are more difficult to obtain.
This instruction is a notice for all Operational personnel, especially Region Leadership Teams and Incident Management Teams, to ensure they are familiar with the process to request New Zealand Defence Force (NZDF) assistance.
All personnel must follow the interim command and control policy and not use Section 66 for operational response.
