Public consultation on the proposed Fire and Emergency levy for the period 1 July 2026 – 30 June 2029 closes on 17 May 2024 at 5pm.

It is important that we hear from people who pay the levy or who access our services. Make sure you invite your colleagues, whānau and friends and communities to share their thoughts before consultation closes.

Almost all of our funding comes directly from the public through a levy paid on contents, vehicle and building insurance policies and the views of levy payers are important to us.

We also want to hear from you. If you do want to share your thoughts, we ask you to respond as a levy payer rather than as staff or volunteer of Fire and Emergency. You have a unique position in this consultation. As always, it is important you consider your role as someone who is part of a public agency. If you are concerned about what this means or how to navigate a potential conflict, speak with your manager.

You can provide feedback directly on Citizen Space: consultation.fireandemergency.nz(external link)

You can also download the discussion document(external link) on our website, on our consultation platform(external link).

The feedback you provide will inform the Government’s decisions on the final levies for 2026–2029.

If you have any questions about the consultation or about the levy, email the team at LevyFeedback@fireandemergency.nz
