Takirimaiteata (Taki) Turner

11.06.1943 - 01.05.2024

Taki initially worked for the NZ Fire Service as our Tainui liaison creating rich channels of communication and engagementment for the then Fire Service. He visited many Tainui marae, kura, koohanga reo and isolated communities to ensure his people knew about the dangers of fire and how to best avoid unwated fires. Taki was a well respected kaumaatua (elder) of the Tainui people and trusted confidante of the current Māori king, Kiingi Tuuheitia Pootatau Te Wherowhero VII and his late mother Dame Te Ataairangi Kaahu.

Taki's funeral took place at the Tuurangawaewae marae over the weekend culminating in a final farewell before his burial on Taupiri maunga.
