Representatives of the project team and the five stations receiving the new appliances attended a two-day workshop at Fraser Engineering in late January to discuss key areas of refinement such as cab layout and storage for the three Type 5 medium appliances. There was also a representative from the contract lead Global Fire Solutions Pty Ltd (t/a Bronto SkyLift Ltd).

In March, three project team members visited R.A. Bell in Australia for similar discussions on the final fitout of the Type 5 Large and Type 6 Aerial appliances.

As with the visit to Frasers, the team found the visit invaluable for clearly communicating our requirements for the appliances to the supplier.

Group Manager and project team member Alban Osborne, who visited R.A. Bell, said the team was pleased with the progress being made.

‘It will be great to see the appliances land in country and get them on the run.’

The appliances, once they are built, are going to:

  • Auckland (Parnell Station) – Type 5 Large
  • Hamilton (Hamilton City Station) – Type 6
  • Wellington (Thorndon Station), Christchurch (Christchurch City Station) and Dunedin (Dunedin City Station) – 3 x Type 5 Medium
