This morning we were advised the Court of Appeal has not granted NZPFU leave to appeal last year’s Employment Court decision. They have also awarded us costs related to the application for leave to appeal. This decision related to the selection process for new Tranche 2 Service Delivery positions, where our view that those who would otherwise be made redundant should have preference was upheld.

We are extremely pleased with this outcome. From the beginning, we have sought to do the best thing by our people and designed the redeployment process on that basis.

For those who have already been appointed to new positions, subject to the court process, we will be in touch shortly to confirm the next steps for you.

With this ruling [PDF, 195 KB], it means we can move forward with Tranche 2, building a unified Fire and Emergency and giving our people certainty for their future.
