Volunteer Leaders Conferences

Kia ora koutou

This year we were due to hold our biennial Volunteer Leaders Conferences throughout our regions. These events have been a key opportunity for us to connect with our volunteer leaders, provide updates on organisational developments and get feedback on what’s working and what’s not.

This year we have also had to deal with the impacts of COVID 19 and ensuring our people stay safe. Volunteer Leader Conferences generally bring together hundreds of our people at one time and, given the ongoing uncertainties surrounding COVID 19, we want to make sure this is safe to do so before planning events of this scale. Additionally, the impacts of COVID 19 has severely affected our ability to organise these conferences as these usually take around 6 months to organise.

In taking all these factors into consideration, ELT have decided to postpone this year’s conferences until 2021.

We understand that some of you may be disappointed by this news especially following the UFBA’s decision to also not host their annual conference this year. We feel this is the right decision to make to ensure the health and safety of our people. We’re committed to ensuring there are other ways for our volunteers to receive updates from Fire and Emergency, and to provide feedback, particularly during this time of change as we work through our new Service Delivery organisational structure and approach to rank.

The Service Delivery Leadership Team and I have been traveling to all our regions over the past few weeks to meet and talk to our people about the upcoming changes. We are also hosting weekly live Q&As via our ‘Ask SDLT Anything’ forums on Microsoft Teams, which is open to everyone, and will continue to keep people updated through our range of existing channels, e.g. our regular Leaders’ VC, the Portal, Fire and Emergency’s monthly newsletter, etc.

In the meantime, if you have any questions please feel free to get in touch with your Manager.
