The Type 3 Appliance Acquisition Project wants to deliver a workplace for firefighters, not simply a new truck. The appliance is where our firefighters spend a lot of their time, and it must be fit for purpose, comfortable, safe, and flexible to meet the changing demands of our industry.

Working Group Chair Barry Fox says the project has moved a step further with the end of Stage 2 which involved evaluation of the responses we received to our Request for Proposals (RFP) which was on the Government Electronic Tendering System for three months.

“Our RFP ended in December 2020 and we had responses from four suppliers. Our Evaluation Panel worked its way through close to 10,000 pages which was a lot of hard work. The Panel also completed moderation and submitted a report to our Project Sponsor with its recommendations which were accepted.

“I am pleased to say that we have progressed three of the four suppliers to Stage 3. This involves customer reference checks, health and safety policies and procedure reviews, and financial due diligence reports. We are aiming to complete Stage 3 in early July.

“Following Stage 3 completion, contract negotiations and design reviews will commence with two preferred suppliers.”
