The importance of listening cannot be underestimated, from comprehending instructions to being there for a colleague when they need support. A good listener will develop trust during communications and avoid misunderstandings.

The Safety Health and Wellbeing team has collated a list of ways to help you to actively listen, as well as a list of things to avoid that prevent us from listening. Actively listening positively influences the people around us, enhancing the relationships we have with others.

You can find out more about ‘active listening’ and the benefits on the safety initiatives portal page. You’ll also find a range of other safety, health and wellbeing initiatives to assist our people.
