This Cyber Smart Week, why not take some time to ensure your accounts are being kept as secure as possible?

Multi-factor authentication (MFA) is just one way to add an extra layer of security when using your devices.

With single-factor authentication, you only need your password to verify that it is you that is logging into your accounts. This leaves you vulnerable if cyber criminals have gained access to your passwords.

With MFA, you provide two methods of verification – something you know (your password), and something you have (MFA code or approval notification).

Currently Fire and Emergency use an SMS code which is sent to your phone, however it is recommended that you set up the Microsoft Authenticator app(external link) to manage all MFA requests - for both work and home devices. The authenticator app is the recommended option by Microsoft and security experts.

Using a MFA code means someone else can’t login, even if they have your username and password. You’ll be sent a new unique code every time you log in.
