SMS incident reporting – meeting the needs of rural and urban users
Improvements to the Station Management System (SMS) to make it easier to complete incident reports and capture better data are being welcomed by users.
Dan Rea, who assisted with the rollout and support of the SMS enhancements, says the general feedback received has been very positive.
“We’ve had fewer support calls and issues than we’d anticipated with such a large change to the system.”
Rimutaka Station Officer Danny Sharpe, who was part of the user testing team, says the new incident reporting layout and features (particularly the map) are very user friendly and he has heard good comments from other users.
“I applaud the team’s effort in producing another positive step for Fire and Emergency moving forward.”
Seaview Station Officer Grant Bristow says people who are unfamiliar with incident reporting will find the guidance material really helpful.
The incident reporting enhancements are part of Fire and Emergency NZ’s plan to upgrade the SMS so that it meets the needs of both urban and rural users.
