As part of Fire and Emergency’s journey towards having a Local Advisory Committee (LAC) in every area across the motu, recruitment is underway for members of our new Auckland LAC.

The new LAC will represent our biggest city - 1.65m people made up of over 200 ethnic groups, spread over a mix of densely populated, sprawling urban and rural areas and rapidly changing spaces. It is vital to the success of our LAC that we have the right mix of people to give voice to the varied ethnic and cultural communities, businesses, commercial, industrial and social sectors.

It will cover three of Fire and Emergency’s Districts – Auckland City, Counties Manukau and Waitematā.

Fire and Emergency New Zealand works with eleven Local Advisory Committees (LACs) around the motu to ensure communities’ voices and interests are reflected in our national and local planning. They provide us with independent advice on what their communities value, their needs, and the risks they face.

LACs help to shape the future of Fire and Emergency’s support for communities by enabling us to better understand what matters to communities - now and in the future. This means we can better support them to prepare for, respond to, and recover well from emergencies when they happen.

To serve on these committees, we are looking for people from diverse community, social, business, and industry groups, who are well-connected and respected within those groups and able to provide deeper insights into their views and concerns. Some governance and/or strategic management experience is preferred.

If you know people like this in your community that might be a good fit, please encourage them to find out more and apply on our website(external link).

Applications open 25 September and close on 23 October 2024.
