Restart a Heart Day is held on October 16 every year and is a Europe-wide initiative developed by the European Resuscitation Council. It was launched in 2013 to teach members of the public how to help restart the heart of someone who has suffered a cardiac arrest.

At a recent Australasian Ambulance Service CEOs meeting, it was agreed that emergency services in Australia and New Zealand would play their part in Restart a Heart Day. As a result, St John New Zealand and Wellington Free Ambulance Service committed to do something to recognise this day. We have also teamed up with the NZ Heart Foundation, St John Ambulance and Wellington Free Ambulance to assist in events that will be held in several locations around New Zealand on Monday 16th October.

Restart A Heart Day is an exciting opportunity to highlight CPR and AED use and ultimately contribute to the goal of increasing survival rates from out-of-hospital cardiac arrest people in New Zealand.
