Yesterday, we released our progress report on the recommendations from the Port Hills review, and the findings into the cause and origin of the fires. You can see our media release here(external link)(external link).

Early this morning we discovered that we accidentally released personal information in these reports, and immediately removed the documents from our website. They had only been accessed a small number of times.

As you’re aware, at Fire and Emergency NZ, we take our responsibility to protect private, personal information seriously. We’ve reviewed our processes for the release of information to the public to ensure they are robust and that all documents are properly vetted before we make them available.

We are contacting the individuals affected to explain what has happened and to apologise for the oversight. We’ve provided a dedicated number – 04 474 4810 – for people to speak with us directly if they have any concerns. We’ve also notified the Office of the Privacy Commissioner.

Chief Executive, Rhys Jones, has provided information about this to the media.
