Recent Community Readiness & Recovery (CRR) initiatives in Northland are excellent examples of how working with Neighbourhood Support groups can enhance our kaupapa.

The Northland CRR team has recently run two successful pilot Home Fire Safety Drives in partnership with Neighbourhood Support.  For both events, Neighbourhood Support lined up a list of households who were keen to receive fire safety visits and have smoke alarms installed.  Thanks to this awesome collaboration, the Northland team were able to complete 20-30 safety visits in a couple of hours!

Not only were these safety visits achieved with the support of Neighbourhood Support, a couple of the volunteers working with our Fire and Emergency people on the day were keen to sign up as Fire Safety Champions with the local brigades.

The Northland CRR team are keen to increase their capability across Te Tai Tokerau District, by enlisting more Fire Safety Champions to support this mahi.

Neighbourhood Support groups are respected and embedded in their communities and have a much better reach than Fire and Emergency can achieve by ourselves. This is invaluable as we strive towards Safer Communities Protecting What Matters.
