Opportunities to learn te reo Māori and Pacific Islands languages available now
Weekly Te Reo Māori courses starting in February
From February - March, te reo Māori courses are being made available to all personnel. These courses will be held online and are open to all our people across the motu (country). There is a range of levels for all learners and sessions are recorded for those unable to make every session. Sir John Ahikaiata Turei Grant open for applications
The Dr. Sir John Ahikaiata Turei memorial Grant is now open for applications. This grant provides financial support for anyone within the organisation learning te reo Māori at a recognised university/whare wānanga, training establishment or appropriate body. Pacific Islands Languages Grant open for applications
This grant is an initiative to help Fire and Emergency work more effectively with Pacific populations and to benefit the personal development of its recipients. It assists with tuition fees, resources and operational cover directly related to study in any Pacific Islands language or languages. The grant offers a total of $5,000 per annum that is allocated to one or more recipients. The grant guidelines can be found here.
To be considered for the grant you must complete the online application form. The next round of applications closes on 4 March 2026.
