The 6th of February 2023 marks 183 years since the signing of Te Tiriti o Waitangi – The Treaty of Waitangi, a significant part of our past and our future. They are considered our nation's founding documents and they govern the relationship between Māori and everyone else living in Aotearoa, New Zealand.

Our Kaupapa Maōri and Cultural Communities Branch created this dedicated Portal page to support you and your crew to learn more about events leading up to and after the 6th of February 1840. Knowledge of these events will improve your ability to effectively connect with and serve Māori in your role.

Via the Portal page you can find out about the four online 'Kawhe me te Kōrero - Coffee and Conversation' wānanga lead by two different kaiako, teachers - giving you plenty of options to take that next step in your learning. Both kaiako will run an introductory wānanga and then a deeper dive into the kaupapa for their second session.
