We are calling for nominations for the Fire and Emergency New Zealand Awards.

These awards are made by the Board and senior leadership and recognise specific actions and/or meritorious service of individuals or groups both within and outside Fire and Emergency.

There are four types of Fire and Emergency New Zealand awards. These are:

  • Board Citation
  • Certificate of Commendation
  • Certificate of Appreciation

There is also a Dress Distinction, which is initiated by the organisation and not included in this nomination process.

Nominations process

Nominations must be made using the prescribed nomination form and can be made by any member of Fire and Emergency. Self-nominations are not accepted. They must have the endorsement of the relevant District Manager or Tier 3 Manager, as well as the endorsement of the relevant direct manager of the individual/group being nominated.

Nominations may also be accompanied by supporting evidence, such as references or letters of support from individuals other than the nominating person.

All nominations received during this period will be reviewed by a committee appointed by the Chief Executive. Following that, the committee’s recommendations will be approved by the Board or Executive Leadership Team as appropriate. All decisions are final.

Successful award recipients will be notified via an email from the Chief Executive/National Commander in the first instance before being announced on the Portal.

Nominations are called for twice per year, typically in March and August, with approved awards presented later in the year. Recipients from the current round will be recognised towards the end of 2026.

Nominations for the current round open on 3rd November and close on 30th November.

We recently announced the recipients of the Special Issue Fire and Emergency New Zealand Awards which you can read about here.
