Today marks an important milestone for Fire and Emergency New Zealand as we release our new five-year strategic direction, Tā Mātou Ahunga Rautaki Our Strategic Direction 2025–2030 (Our Strategic Direction).

Setting a new strategic direction drives a multiyear improvement programme and will guide us to be more efficient and effective in how we deliver services to communities.

Our new strategic direction supports Fire and Emergency’s evolution and guides our focus and mahi over the next five years. It drives resource allocation and effective and efficient delivery of our services where they will have the most impact.

Board Chair Rebecca Keoghan says Our Strategic Direction sets a clear, future-focused path for Fire and Emergency. ‘It guides how the organisation plans, allocates resources, and delivers services effectively to those who need them most, while ensuring long-term financial sustainability.’

Chief Executive and National Commander Kerry Gregory says Our Strategic Direction clearly sets out the specific impacts the Board are looking to us to achieve, so we can direct our efforts and be held to account.

‘Positive organisational culture is the foundation that will help us achieve our strategic outcomes and deliver on our purpose of serving communities together,’ continues Kerry.

‘Underpinned by our values, we are continuing to build a safe, positive, and inclusive organisation culture which empowers us all to perform our roles.’

Our Strategic Direction guides everyone to work toward positive impacts in five key areas:

  1. Undertaking safe, effective and resilient operations
  2. Being an effective regulator
  3. Building strong relationships
  4. Supporting our people
  5. Having strong business foundations

Our Strategic Direction will come into effect from 1 July 2025, and will replace Fire and Emergency's National Strategy 2019–2045.
