The Te Pae Tata programme was established in December 2021, and will see the Risk Reduction directorate deliver 12 initiatives and projects by June 2023 that will support improvements across Fire and Emergency’s Service Delivery branch.

The projects all aim to improve our risk reduction activities, to benefit the communities that we serve every day.

National Risk Reduction Manager and Te Pae Tata sponsor Roxanne Hilliard says, “This is an exciting time for the directorate, we are talking about a range of complex projects that will have a big impact on reducing fire risk out there in the community.

“Given that there are 12 projects being run simultaneously, there will be some challenges that lay ahead, however I’m confident that the teams and subject matter experts behind this work will do an excellent job.

“Te Pae Tata means the close horizon in Te Reo, and really reflects where we want to get to, and how Risk Reduction will look in practice, once this work is complete,” says Roxanne.

Te Pae Tata translates to the close horizon and comes from the whakataukī in Fire and Emergency’s Commitment Statement:

Ko te pae tawhiti, whāia kia tata, ko te pae taka, whakamaua kia tina | Pursue distant horizons until they are within reach, once in reach hold them and treasure them
