New Angloco MAN appliances
Fire and Emergency has taken possession of 15 new Angloco MAN appliances.
Since we were formed as Fire and Emergency New Zealand in 2017, 317 new appliances have been purchased with a further 78 on order.
This week we have 15 of the first MAN Type 3 pumpers being handed over to Operational Response for training. The balance will be in stations after Christmas. These are modern firefighting systems and represent a good step up from our current appliances. They are currently being prepared for deployment in groups to stations for refresher training so crews can understand new features and how they operate. After stations are trained, the MANs will be deployed to them and the training vehicles will move onto the next stations.
The first five are planned to go to stations in Hamilton, Tauranga and Christchurch. The next five to Wellington, then stations across Palmerston North, Hawkes Bay, Whanganui, Dunedin, Auckland, Counties Manukau, Waitemata.
There are also four Scania Type 3 pumpers being delivered to Operational Response over the next few weeks, whilst the five aerial appliances will come online by the end of this financial year.
We agree with our frontline … the age of the fleet needs to be addressed. It is great to see these projects come to life with our Type 3 pumpers being delivered. Our asset management plans reflect our commitment to reducing the age of our fleet with us investing $20 million each year for the next three years.
