People across the motu have been moving for Movember and have raised nearly $30,000 for men’s health and mental health.

Here are a few of the incredible challenges people have taken on over the month.

Blake Thomson

Blake is a firefighter and member of the Akaroa Volunteer Fire Brigade. This Movember had a special meaning for Blake after he was diagnosed with testicular cancer in late September. Thanks to early diagnosis and treatment he is now cancer free. He took on a 10 km walk in BA tackling close to 600m elevation along the way.

Since this video was recorded he has raised $11,655! An incredible effort! And he’s not done yet – he’s also taking part in the Mid Canterbury Combat Challenge tomorrow.

24 hour treadmill challenge – Christchurch vs Auckland

Last weekend personnel in Christchurch and Auckland gathered together to complete a 24 hour treadmill challenge.

The Christchurch team managed to clock up an impressive 162.7kms over the 24 hours!

For challenge co-organiser Matt McIntyre this was one of several fundraisers he’s taken on over the month including growing a monkey tail style moustache, mowing lawns and a charity golf day. He’s raised just over $11,000 to date!

Hunua Volunteer Fire Brigade

This weekend members of the Hunua Volunteer Fire Brigade will walk 60kms in full firefighting breathing apparatus.

Some have been walking over the month and will complete their 60km on the day, others will complete it as a relay and some will take on the full 60km loop on the day.

Good luck to everyone taking part!
