I wanted to let you know about the Chief Executive recruitment process the Board is progressing, which is a standard process for public service agencies.

The Crown Entities Act 2004 states that a Chief Executive’s term of appointment is up to five years, after which it must be re-advertised openly. The incumbent is permitted to reapply.

At the end of Rhys Jones’ current term in June 2022, he will have held this role for five years. The Board has therefore developed plans to formally test the market at this point.

The Board has selected Fisher Leadership to undertake the recruitment process on its behalf. Fisher Leadership is an experienced executive search agency that operates in New Zealand and Australia, and across public and private sectors.

This week the recruitment process begins, with applications open until 26 November. The Board will be welcoming and considering applications from both internal and external applicants. We expect that interviews will begin before the end of the calendar year, with the preferred candidate appointed in the new year. I will update you once the recruitment process is complete.

Finally, I would like to emphasise that the Board has great confidence in the leadership of Fire and Emergency across all levels. Thank you for your mahi.
