Wellington District advises of the passing of Lloyd Charles Johns, who proudly served the New Zealand Fire Service for over 14 years, beginning at the Lower Hutt Fire Brigade in the late 1950s.

Lloyd rose through the ranks to Third Officer and later Commandant of the Fire Service College in Island Bay, Wellington. He was also awarded a Churchill Fellowship, studying at Moreton-in-Marsh in England — achievements that helped shape modern fire-service training both here and abroad.

These early years formed the foundation of a remarkable career that continued in Australia, where he went on to become Director of the Country Fire Service of South Australia. Yet, throughout his life, he spoke of his time in New Zealand with deep gratitude and respect for the brotherhood of the service.

Lloyd's funeral was held in Australia on Tuesday 28 October.
