2024 Learning Technologies Survey open
Do you have experience using Learning Station or have an interest in using technology to support teaching and learning at Fire and Emergency? If so, our Learning Technologies team want to hear from you.
The Learning Technologies team are conducting a survey to collect feedback from our people who are keen to contribute their views to inform future updates and improvements to IT tools used in teaching and learning.
Your thoughts help ensure that we provide the best tools and support for teaching and learning.

Please note that this survey is not anonymous, and the Learning Technologies team will be collecting email addresses for the purpose of reaching out to those who have provided proposals or feedback that they would like to explore further. Your contact details will be kept confidential and will only be used for this purpose.

Below are details of the feedback we received in the 2023 Learning Technologies survey.
You said:
Technology:
- You want fit for purpose, modern and easy to use learning technologies such as LMS and Virtual Reality.
- You want systems to connect to each other.
- You want to use mobile applications for teaching and learning and to access other Fire and Emergency systems. You also want mobile devices for teaching.
- You want more online learning and assessments.
Digital skills and professional development:
- You want training in how to use every day work tools like Microsoft Teams and Microsoft OneDrive.
- You want flexibility in the timing available for online face-to-face training sessions.
- You want a variety of strategies to be adopted for capability development e.g., training materials, a go to person, online training, and refresher training.
Materials:
- You want more videos for firefighting courses and programs, and IT systems.
- You want up to date material.
- You want to easily access learning material from a central place.
Others:
- You want more access and use of data for decision making.
- You want more incorporation of Te Tiriti and Mātauranga Māori.
We did:
Non-Learning Technologies Related changes:
- Escalated learning material issues to the relevant teams.
- Escalated IT issues (e.g training videos, SMS, Portal, login, network connectivity) to the ICT team.
- ICT provided updated Microsoft training videos which are now available on the Learning Station Catalogue under Technology > Microsoft Office.
Learning Technologies Related:
- Reviewed Learning Station and other technologies against feedback, future needs, and strategy.
- Developed strategy statements and a roadmap for learning technologies.
- Updated the look and feel of Learning Station and its course catalogue feature to improve how you find e-learning modules and videos.
- Trialed the use of the Learning Station mobile application.
- Trialed the use of electronic practical assessments.
- Established standards for inclusive e-learning materials and videos.
Ongoing changes:
- We are currently working on uploading NZQA unit standards records into Learning Station. (external link)
- Working with the Data Analytics and Insights teams to explore and improve reporting from Learning Station.
To come in 2025:
- Rollout of the Learning Station mobile app and electronic practical assessments following a successful trial.
- Improvements to Learning Technologies support material and adoption of more capability development strategies.
- Exploring other system capabilities of Learning Station.
