International Women's Day is coming

International Women's Day is this Saturday, 8 March. Take time this week to celebrate the wāhine in your lives.

This global day is about celebrating the social, economic, cultural, and political achievements of women. The theme for 2025 is #AccelerateAction(external link) – a call to action for accelerating women’s equality.

Accelerate Action is a worldwide call to acknowledge strategies, resources, and activity that positively impact women's advancement, and to support and elevate their implementation.

Significant barriers to gender equality remain, yet with the right action and support, positive progress can be made for women everywhere.

For 2025, our Fire and Emergency theme is ‘#AccelerateAction for women’s equality - equitable, and inclusive teams are higher performing teams. He mana tō te wāhine /Honour the contribution of our women’.

We will be posting stories from some amazing wāhine in Fire and Emergency later this week about how they think being part of a diverse and inclusive team has led to their success.
