This Sunday marks International Women’s Day, a global day celebrating the social, economic, cultural and political achievements of women. The day also marks a call to action for accelerating women's equality. This year’s theme is #EachForEqual – striving towards gender equality.

To mark the day, some events being held around the country:

  • New Plymouth Station have organised a casual morning tea with Civil Defence, St John, Police, ED nurses and women from the New Plymouth District Council as an opportunity to network with other women from differing organisations.
    When: Sunday 8 March, 10am - 12pm
    Where: New Plymouth Station
  • Hawke’s Bay is hosting a combined event with the local council, Civil Defence, St John and Police as a chance to meet the women working in emergency services helping to make Hawke’s Bay a safer place.
    When: Sunday 8 March, 11am - 2pm
    Where: Perfume Point Reserve, Ahuriri, Napier

Women in Fire and Emergency (WFENZ) promotes and facilitates the participation and success of women in fire and emergency roles in New Zealand by bringing women together to share ideas and experiences. WFENZ aims to create a safe, inclusive environment to encourage diversity and acknowledge our unique strengths as women.
