SFF Logan Martin and his crew at Henderson Fire Station hosted singer/ventriloquist Emily Cuff and her puppet friend Violet for a segment called “Emily and Violet” on TVNZ children's programme What Now, in an episode that aired just before lockdown (15 August).

They showed Emily and Violet what went on at a fire station, demonstrated a MVA rescue and the use of a hose, and took the duo on a ride-along. Most importantly, SFF Martin delivered key fire safety messages to tamariki (children) and their caregivers watching at home.

Their media appearance supports our strategic priority of building resilient communities and aligns with our work in the Ahikura Programme an intervention programme delivered by trained firefighters to help tamariki and rangatahi (youths) referred by external partners to overcome unhealthy firelighting behaviour.

Watch the segment (starts at 14:30) on TVNZ On Demand (no registration needed). https://www.tvnz.co.nz/shows/what-now/episodes/s2021-e25(external link)
