The ‘your say’ survey on diversity, inclusion and cultural capability is now closed.

The results are being collated and will be shared within a few weeks.

About the topic: Diversity, inclusion and cultural capability

We’re building an organisation where you feel that you belong; where everyone is welcome and confident being themselves.

Our diversity should be celebrated. We all bring something unique to the organisation, and it’s our differences that make us stronger and more resilient.

In our mahi (work) we are part of communities across Aotearoa New Zealand.

Our communities are changing. By 2038, more than 50 percent of New Zealanders will identify as Māori, Asian or Pacific and we will speak more than 200 languages.

Being a diverse and inclusive organisation means we can better support all communities, helping them to mitigate risks and increase their resilience.

This short ‘pulse check’ survey will help us measure where we are at now, and, over time, how we are progressing.

The responses to the survey will inform organisation-wide initiatives like our Eke Taumata programme(external link) to create a positive culture, and the mahi (work) of our Kaupapa Māori and Cultural Communities Branch(external link), which encompasses our Rautaki Māori Strategy(external link). The strategy outlines the work Fire and Emergency will do to create safer and more resilient Māori communities. This survey is one way we can measure how we are tracking as we work to achieve the outcomes in the strategy.

We all have a part to play to make sure that Fire and Emergency is a safe, positive and inclusive place to work and volunteer.

The results of this short ‘pulse check’ survey will inform organisation-wide initiatives and help us measure where we are at now, and, over time, how we are progressing.

They will also guide Regions and Branches to use their results to inform mahi in their areas.

Taking part in our pulse surveys is just one small way you can help us measure where we are at now, and, over time, how we are progressing.

About the 'your say' survey

People are at the heart of everything we do at Fire and Emergency. We run surveys to help us understand how people feel about being part of Fire and Emergency. Surveys allow us to measure progress as we work to improve what we do.

We want to hear from you through our people survey, 'your say', our new way of running our people surveys.

Instead of one big survey that takes a lot of time, we run three short surveys on three different topics. This approach allows us to take a quick ‘pulse check’ of where we are at now, and how we are tracking over time.

It's easier for everyone to take part – in addition to individual survey links sent to people’s emails, an open link can also be used to access the survey.

Each survey has a different theme:

  • People experience and leadership capability
  • Diversity, inclusion and cultural capability, and
  • Safety, health and wellbeing.

These topics will remain the same so that we can start to track our progress year on year in these three areas.

The themes for our surveys are focused on our people and their experiences here. The themes are based off the strategic goals of our Tauākī Takune 2023–2027 - Statement of Intent(external link).

Our partner, Ipsos, independently runs the survey for us. Their teams have a wealth of experience in this type of mahi. Ipsos | Market Research | Australia.(external link)
