To make sure you receive appropriate treatment and are paid correctly if you are injured outside of work, please follow the guidance below.

If you are injured outside of work – non-work injuries:

  • Seek medical attention and advice on if the injury meets the criteria of an ACC non-work injury claim
  • Your medical provider will lodge a non-work injury claim form with ACC to triage and either accept or decline the claim
  • If the injury has resulted in time off work, please inform your officer in charge or manager and contact ACC on 0800 101 996. Tell ACC that you work for Fire and Emergency who has an Employer Reimbursement Agreement (ERA) with them.
  • ACC will then notify the Injury Management Unit (IMU) as you may be entitled to further payment from Fire and Emergency.
  • An ACC claims manager will be assigned to manage your non-work injury claim and will provide rehabilitation support, to ensure you recover well and can return to work.

All non-work injuries are processed and managed by ACC.

Accepted non-work injury claims

Once your non-work injury claim is accepted by ACC, you will receive an automated email or text from ACC with the following information:

It is important to make sure that you log into MyACC(external link) to complete a weekly compensation application for your non-work injury claim. If don’t have access to MyACC(external link) then call ACC on 0800 101 996.

By completing this application, this means that ACC are notified that you are claiming loss of earnings from your employer, and Fire and Emergency can recover these costs directly from ACC.

If you have any questions about the non-work injury claim process, or need advice on the ACC claims management process, please don’t hesitate to contact the IMU. You can contact the IMU on 0800 347 306 or 04 496 3670, or email IMU@fireandemergency.nz.
