Paul Turner, National Manager Response Capability is encouraging our people in Auckland to take advantage of a possible reduction in callouts as we move down through the COVID-19  Levels to take the online training on working safely around water.

“With Auckland back in Covid-19 Level 3 and the rest of the country in Level 2, we may experience a reduction in callouts as we did during the Covid-19 shutdown during late March to early June.

“I’m hoping that you will take the opportunity in a less busy time to do the on-line Working Safely Around Water module especially if you are in a rural fire district or are based at a volunteer brigade.

“We are moving into Spring, however in certain parts of the country last year we had a very wet period from September through to early December, so we may face more flooding over coming months. Doing the training now will help you to be ready for any water or flooding incidents that you may be called out to.”

The training module is on Learning Station https://learningstation2.fireandemergency.nz/Core/search(external link). (Search for 'Working safely around water'). If you are based in a rural fire district or volunteer brigade and have any problems getting onto learning station, please contact WorkingSafelyAroundWater@fireandemergency.nz – the project team will send you a USB to use for the training and will talk to you about completing the training records.
