Four new Local Advisory Committees established
This week, Fire and Emergency Board formally established four new LACs in Waikato, Taranaki, Nelson-Tasman and Southland, appointing 32 new committee members. Four new members have also been appointed to our existing Hawke’s Bay committee.
These Local Advisory Committees will provide a new voice for these communities, helping us get our emergency planning right and strengthening local relationships, as well as providing independent advice to our Board. They’ll engage with community groups about local needs and support our local teams in building a shared understanding with communities about the service we can and should be delivering.
Their first tasks will be to plan how to best engage and seek feedback from stakeholders across their community about local needs. Engagement is expected to get underway in early 2025, so you’ll start hearing more about these Committees in the coming months.
The National Local Advisory Committee Team, existing LAC members and our District teams look forward to formally welcoming new members in the coming weeks.
Thank you to all our people who promoted the appointments process through your networks. Your local knowledge and networks were invaluable in helping us find our new LAC members. This important milestone reflects Fire and Emergency’s commitment to better support communities to prepare for, respond to, and recover from emergencies.
