Fire and Emergency New Zealand will present four abstracts at the Australasian Fire and Emergency Service Authorities Council (AFAC) conference in Adelaide this week.

The conference brings together fire services from around Australia and New Zealand, as well as universities and other agencies to share their knowledge across a host of different topics involving fire. It runs from 23 August to 26 August at the Adelaide Convention Centre.

Fire and Emergency personnel will give two oral presentations. The first will be delivered by Community Education and Behaviour Change Manager Adrian Nacey about segmenting New Zealand communities to fire safety by attitude and behaviour. The second will be completed by Te Ao Mārama Research Advisor Khanh Ton and Principal Advisor Volunteer Sustainability Ryley Webster on understanding the early journey of volunteers and career firefighters.

We are also presenting two posters. Marketing Manager Kelley Toy’s is on the evolution of New Zealand wildfire social marketing campaigns, while DCE Kaupapa Māori and Cultural Communities Piki Thomas’ is about exploring the career expectations and experiences of Māori firefighters.

The theme of the conference is “Connecting Communities. Creating Resilience”, which aligns closely with our values.
