Expressions of interest – Career Firefighter and Communication Centre recruitment review
Applications closed at 5pm Thursday 6 March 2025 - No further applications will be accepted
We are undertaking a review of our career firefighter and communication centre recruitment processes to ensure they are fair, effective and aligned with our current operational requirements. We’re asking for people who want to contribute and be part of this important mahi.
Why the review?
At Fire and Emergency NZ, we are committed to attracting and selecting the best people to join our organisation. It is important we regularly review our recruitment practices to make sure we are a modern and fit for purpose fire and emergency organisation, and that we’re meeting the needs of our communities.
What is involved?
This review will look at every stage of a candidates’ recruitment journey, from attraction and marketing, to testing, selection and appointment.
This review is not about lowering our recruitment standards; our operational roles require highly capable individuals to ensure both our success and safety of our people. Instead, we want to ensure that the processes we undertake remain fit for purpose and accurately test for the skills and competencies required.
The project will work closely with key operational and non-operational personnel from across the organisation. We will regularly engage with a range of stakeholders, including our union partners.
How can you be involved?
We’re calling for expressions of interest from people who wish to be involved in this work.
We want to make sure we include a range of voices throughout the recruitment review, so we’re setting up a Recruitment Review Working Group.
We are working closely with our Union partners who will be part of this working group as well as receiving input from our Eke Taumata Internal Advisory Rōpū.
We’re also looking for individuals who want to make sure we attract the best people to join us to be part of this working group You'll have a strong interest in how we make sure our recruitment processes are fit for purpose and free from biases. We’re particularly interested in understanding your motivation in being part of this working group as well as any experience you have in recruitment or engagement. To ensure a wide range of voices are included, we encourage expressions of interest from operational and non-operational personnel. All work will be online so location is not a barrier, you just need access to a Fire and Emergency device.
The work requirements for this working group include attending monthly meetings on Microsoft Teams (online), doing pre-reading and carrying out tasks that may be identified within these meetings – around 5 hours per month between March and the end of June 2025.
Overtime rates as per the CEA will apply where work is required to be completed outside of your rostered shifts for operational personnel.
If this sounds interesting to you, please discuss with your GM/leader and seek their endorsement before you apply.
Due to having limited positions available in the working group, we will be shortlisting applications and making final selections based on the information provided in the expressions of interest form.
