Fire and Emergency is launching a national campaign, Escape Week, running 9-15 February to encourage New Zealanders to create a household fire escape plan.

We have all seen the devastation fires can cause and know how vital it is that people know how they would get out in the event of a fire. However, if a fire breaks out in your house at 2am you won’t have your PPE on you, so you too need to be prepared. As important as it is to educate New Zealanders about the need for them to have escape plans, we too need to take time to create and practise ours.

In June 2019 we launched the new escape planner tool to encourage New Zealanders to create an escape plan. To date 14,227 escape plans have been created on our Escape Planner tool. By June 2021, we hope to see 1 in 20 households have a completed escape plan, so we have a way to go!

To help get us there, we are launching a nationwide ‘Escape Week’ from 9th to 15th February, to get families to take 5 minutes to make a potentially life-saving escape plan, using our www.escapemyhouse.co.nz(external link) tool.

We want you all to get involved as well. Create and practise your escape plan with your families and crew and share them on your local brigade Facebook pages. You can also download the campaign poster at the link below, or order them on Online Ordering(external link) (available from 5 Feb).
