Free online training in the Coordinated Incident Management System (CIMS) and many coordination centre functions is readily available to all Fire and Emergency personnel. The courses are self-paced, so you train when it suits you.

This is of immediate benefit to anyone with a current role, or interest in being involved, in any of our Coordination Centres at local, region or national level and it supports the uplift in our emergency management capability.

We are developing a comprehensive coordination centre training programme for Fire and Emergency and this will take time to ensure consistency with the other training streams and pathways for different aspects of incident response and management.

In the meantime, we are providing an immediate boost by using the online courses created by the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) and hosted on their Takatū training platform.

Everyone logging on to Takatū with their Fire and Emergency email address will go straight to our tailor-made landing page. If you are preparing for a role in one of our coordination centres, you can be confident that the material you access through the landing page is relevant.

Begin with basic training in the Coordinated Incident Management System (CIMS) and then train for the specific role you will perform in the coordination centre. For anyone who has completed training in the past and is wondering if they need to re-do any element, we recommend that you refamiliarise yourself with the Intro to CIMS modules annually.

Go to the Emergency Management Programme page for instructions on how to access Takatū, and more information about our Emergency Management Programme.
